Summer Fun/Patriotic Blog Hop, Stampin' Up!

Rachael · June 24, 2017 · Leave a Comment

Hi Stampers! Thanks so much for following along on this Summer Fun/ Patriotic blog hop. If you started here, thanks so much for coming by, remember to finish all the way through to have more chances to win and if this stop was on your way through, thanks for visiting 🙂
The Mermaid Stamp set is one that stole my heart, like immediately! I fell so hard in love with this one!  I mean who hasn’t dreamt of being a mermaid ever since seeing Tom Hanks go all in after Darryl Hannah in SPLASH! Seeing them frolic in the mermaid lagoon in Peter Pan, or maybe for some of you young-ins ;-), Ariel in The Little Mermaid. They are so beautiful and graceful, plus who wouldn’t want to live near the beach, right?
I know my nieces will squeal with delight when they get this in a slightly different version for their birthday cards……Best Aunt Ever right here !!

Onto this pretty, but pretty simple card!
I created the base of the card using the “seafloor” in the Mermaid set, I stamped it diagonally for a different take on the stamp in Crumb Cake, and colored a few of the crabs, shells and starfish in with various Stampin’ Write markers. I then went back and stamped the “seaweed trails” in Garden Green, stamping off once before each movement to give an underwater feel. You could also accomplish this by using two different inks, such as Garden Green and Pear Pizzazz. I also stamped all the way around the card, rotating as I went along, so it appears as if you are looking down in to the sea from above. I added the ” bubbles” in with Marina Mist ink, some full ink and some stamped twice without reinking.
I added some depth by gently “read lightly-ish” sponging So Saffron, and the super lightly Marina Mist, to give a sand and depth of water feel. I also added in some Wink of Stella for that sea sparkle! You could also go over this with Versamark ink, Heat & Stick Powder and finally some Dazzling Diamonds if you want some extra bling.
The Mermaid, I knew I wanted free- floating, so I stamped her onto a piece of Very Vanilla again using Crumb Cake ink for a slight “tan” outline, that would be fairly easy to adapt her skin color to any tone. I used a few different Stampin’ Write markers to get her hair a sandy blonde color, and I used a mix of Powder Pink, Sahara Sand and Craft White ink to even out her skin tone. I hand trimmed her as close as I wanted to get a flowy feel, especially to her hair. I had stamped her tail in Archival Black ink onto Glossy paper and colored it in with reinkers and alcohol in a previous video you can see here.
I added the Mermaid with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Then to finish the inside, I stamped the sentiment in Dapper Denim, and again added some”bubbles” in Marina Mist.
I hope you like this cute first card I created with the Magical Mermaid stamp set. I know there will be lots of new versions to come!
And now onto the good stuff!
Last Month’s Hop Winner: Cheri Furr!!
A big Congrats Cheri 🙂
