Christmas in July Blog Hop, Stampin’ Up!

Hi Stampers!

This beautiful antique style Christmas card, was incredibly easy to create, and it can also be quickly transformed to be a winter card. It could even be a sympathy or thinking of you card ,with the change of a sentiment!

It was a card idea I had in my head, and then when I started stamping it, I didn’t love it. Then I had the thought to change it to an older, vintage postcard style of card, and the magic began.

I stamped the pine trees first in the background, onto a Very Vanilla panel by inking the stamp in Pear Pizzazz, stamping off once first, then stamped the image. I stamped the smaller reindeer in Crumb Cake, and finally the larger centerpiece Reindeer in Early Espresso. I filled in the bigger deer with a blender pen and the Early Espresso ink pad, and also used those tools to add shadowing to the deer for depth of field. I sponged the edges with Early Espresso as well, but I still was not completely satisfied with the look. So I ran a small clear block along the edge of the card stock to rough it up a bit and give an aged curl.  I then used the flat side of the sponge dabbed lightly all over the front in Crumb Cake to finish the aged patina.

I am so thrilled with how this turned out, but it needed a touch of a red color to slightly brighten it, but not a bright red, so I turned to the Cherry Cobbler 1/4″ Double Stitched Ribbon to add a slight color pop. I added the ribbon to a piece of Be Merry DSP with bit of Snail Adhesive. I mounted the front panel using Stampin’ Dimensionals to give some height and visual interest. Then adhered them to a Garden Green card stock base.

I didn’t stop there, for the inside I added the Pine Boughs in Garden Green ink by stamping them first full ink, then again without reinking to fill in the negative space. I sponged the edges as well in Early Espresso, and added the sentiment in that same ink as well.

I finished the front of the card, with some tiny touches of Clear Wink of Stella. I thought it added a bit of wintery Christmas magic.

Measurements

Base: Garden Green 4 1/4″ by 11″, score at 5 1/2″

DSP layer: 4″ by 5 /14″

Very Vanilla front: 3 1/2″ by 4 1/2″

Inside Very Vanilla panel: 4″ by 5 1/4″

So, what do you think? I am really pleased and think I may actually use this design as my family Christmas card…….well, until I get ahold of the 2017 Holiday Catalog I suppose 😉

Until next time,

Stay Crafty!!

XO Rach

Bridge Fold Card, Stampin’ Up!

img_5011.jpg

Hi Stampers!

Today I will share this really cool version of the bridge fold card with you. I am a little sad, I did a You Tube LIVE last night and it didn’t save! 😦 I am so bummed, but I will be making a new video this am, and I will put the link on here so you can watch. I made the video for a new friend of mine Diane, who asked to have a video so she could better understand the “bridge” part of the card, and I totally got carried away with the Flamingos in this set and thought it was just super cool!!

Here are the instructions:

You will need a 4 1/4″ by 8″ piece of card stock to make this, which is awesome in itself, since you can make two of these from one sheet of 8 1/2″ by 11″ card stock! That is a bonus in my book 🙂

You will score on the 8″ side at: 1 1=4″, 2 1/2″, 5 1/2″, 6 3/4″

Then you will need some pieces to decorate your card, you can use DSP if it is easier or you’re in a hurry ( that happens to me…..ALOT!!)

(1)  1″ by 5 3/8″ for the bridge piece

( 2 or 4 depending on how you decorate) 1″ by 4″ for the side panel strips

(1) 2 7/8″ by 4 1/8″ for the base, I used Glossy Paper

Shimmer White scraps for the  Flamingo and the sentiment piece ( gave it extra sparkle)

You can see the full video for better instructions on how to place your bridge, but you can either put it over or under your side decorative strips.

I also attached the Flamingo with dimensional to give it more pop and 3D value.

This will fit into a standard envelope, since it does fold down flat, and it will pop back up once removed.

A few tips:

Remember when stamping on Glossy Paper to stamp straight up and down, DO NOT WIGGLE THE STAMP or it will smear and blur.

You also need to give the Glossy Paper more time to dry, so you may want to do that first and set it aside while you make your base card.

More is more on this “diorama-style” type of card, it will make it more interesting to your  recipient!

Hope you like it as much as I do!

Until next time,

Stay Crafty!

XO Rach
