Stamp It Group Father’s Day blog hop, Stampin’ Up!

Hi stampers! What do you think of this new stamp set? Isn’t is so darn cute? I thought it would make a fun alternative to standard  Father’s Day cards! This is a new host stamp set that will be available in the 2017-18 Annual Catalog. You can get this or any of the hostess sets by having a party, or placing a qualifying order in my online store. I can provide more details if you would like, just send me a note at Rachthestamper@gmail.com .

I used several different ink colors and a blender pen to color in the birds. I gave one a much more “DAD” colored feel, and the other I made a daughter 🙂 You can change out any of the colors, you could also use the watercolor pencils instead and go over with the blender pens to smooth out the color. You could also use Stampin’ Write markers to fill it in too!

I added a “nest” I made from the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon. I snipped out the threads that connect them, loosened them up and the adhered them with TomBow liquid glue so I was able to place it just where I wanted it. I then added some of the Kraft Rope Trim to give it a bottom. The rope trim is in the Clearance Rack by the way and it is REALLY on sale! So…..ya might wanna hurry 😀

I filled in the leaves on the branches with two different colors of marker: I used Pear Pizzazz and Soft Sky, and I think they turned out so pretty!

I will try to get a little mini video done for how I made the NEST and masked the birds to add the branches behind them very soon!

Hope you enjoyed this out of the box style card, please let me know what you think!

Pieces & Patterns, Stampin’ Up!

This fun new stamp set will steal the show when it debuts in the all new 2017-18 Stampin’ Up! Annual catalog.

I used Cajun Craze cardstock and ink for the Dino and I stamped a mushroom and raindrop image with Crumb Cake all onto Very Vanilla card stock. I added a touch of Always Artichoke with the Stampin’ Write marker for some added detail and depth.

The sentiment is from Teeny Tiny Wishes and I punched it out with the Classic Label punch.

Watercoloring , Stampin’ Up!

Hi Stampers! So, let me guess……you’ve never tried to watercolor because you’re not an artist? Maybe you don’t have water in your house? It looks scary? Well, those things may be true, but watercoloring is one of the most REWARDING and most forgiving techniques you will ever try.

The beauty of it, is that you do not have to have any idea what you are doing……all you need to do is try. When you order your aqua painter, first off, you get TWO! That’s right two, and they have different brush lengths and thicknesses. When I first got mine I did so at a big box craft store, and it was only one in the bag. And to be honest, it worked for some time, still does. But to be able to be authentic for you all, I ordered the brushed from Stampin’ Up! and was rather surprised that they came in two packs. Pretty cool if you ask me.

So now you have your brushes,  you just need to fill them with water, and grab a cloth or paper towel, even a baby wipe if it’s handy. You’ll need something to blot with and to bleed the ink out onto if you want to switch colors. And trust me, you will switch colors if you give this a shot.

It is super relaxing to water color and there are many ways to do it, and I will have a video later this week to link in a few of them. But for basics, you can choose Watercolor Paper(WC), or Thick Whisper White(TWW)card stock, OR coming out very soon in the new catalog Thick Very Vanilla card stock ( which I am thrilled about!!!).

Then you have to make a choice, you can take your brush and lay a light( read not soaking wet) layer of water over the whole paper you are going to color, this works slightly better with the WC paper, but the TWW will work too, and slowly add in layers of the color you picked first. Clean you brush add a new color and repeat. Alternatively, you can add a few drops of water to the well side of your ink pad after you ova squeezed the pad together to create an ink pool. You can also achieve them same thing by adding a few drops of reinker to the well side of the pad and add a few drops of water too. The second technique will give a slightly more concentrated color hue.

And yet another way to watercolor is to stamp an image in either Tuxedo ink, Staz-On ink or Archival Black ink. Let the black ink dry thoroughly and then add in your color. I would stay away from laying the water onto the whole image for this version , as it will likely smear your image. However, that color be a very pretty, soft and washed out card, so I may just have to try that myself.

So my main point is, give it a try. Sure, you may hate it, but I find that highly unlikely. My bet is you’ll be asking yourself what took you so long to try it? One more tiny piece of advice, if you truly hate the image and think you have really gone down the wrong path, and who in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD is gonna want this card…..walk away. Let it dry, even give it a full overnight, and I thinking the morning you may be pleasantly surprised 🙂

Most of all, do not give up, create something that makes you smile, makes your heart sing, and may very well make someones day!

Until next time, Stay Crafty!

XO Rach

Stamp It Group:Easter Blog Hop, Stampin’ Up!

Hi stampers 🙂

How are you all on this beautiful Blog Hop Saturday?

I am so happy I finally came up with a fun Easter blog hop idea. Well, ok: full disclosure, my stampin’ buddy Ronda did. She helped me a L O T, she is really good at helping me when my creative process is all buggered up! Also telling me when I have good ( and bad) ideas. She is able to think on the fly, and brainstorm in a fun and different way. That is why I would not trade her for a whole vat of Reese’s peanut butter cups…… and she knows just how much I love them too!

Now,  on to what you hopped here for,  the cards! I did these in two slightly different styles. One with the largest Oval from the layering Oval framelits, and another with the largest Scalloped Oval from the same set.

I used a quarter sheet of card stock for each card, which makes it super simple to create a ton of them, and you can swap out colors to make it more fun too!

Start with  a 4 1/4″ by 5 1/2″ piece of card stock, and on the 5 1/2″ side, score at 2 3/4″. Then with the oval or scalloped framelit you picked, lay it down onto the BigShot platform, and put one of the long oval edges just off the card side ( at the fold) so you will not cut it into two ovals, but instead create an oval card base.

Repeat for as many as you want to make.

I then stamped two different sentiments with some flowers and background images, and cut them both out with the 2nd largest Oval from the layering oval framelits.

The sentiments are from the Suite Sentiments & Suite Sayings stamp sets. And, if i haven’t told you , the “Suite” series ( there have been a few) are MY FAVORITES!!!!

I just adore how there are coordinating fonts, and styles, and the words are all so beautiful and really versatile. I do not know who came up with them, but when I find out, they’re getting a card pronto!

Ok Rach, reign it back in 🙂  I also decorated them both a tiny bit differently. I added the Pearl Basic Jewels to one, along with a faux bow made with the 5/8″ Organza Ribbon. Then the Sprinkles Embellishments ( the matching colors to what I stamped) for the other.

I trimmed off a tiny bit of the bottom on the upright oval card to get it to stand, but I don’t think you notice it a bit.

For the Mini Egg Cartons, I kinda went a little nuts! I filled the stampin’ spritzer mostly with 70% alcohol, and dropped in about five drops of Bermuda Bay reinker. Close it with the lid, and give it a shake, then spritz away. I also sponged a bit of Cucumber Crush, and went around the edges with a bit of Sweet Sugarplum. I then cut some strips of Perfect Plum, and squished them up a bit between my fingers to make it look Easter-grass-ish 🙂 and finally added in my treats.

Hope you will give these sweet “egg” cards a try. I would love to see some of your own versions!

Until next time…..Stay Crafty!

XO Rach

P.S. I will get a video done to demonstrate how to cut the card bases later today if possible.

Build a Birthday, Stampin’ Up!

Hey there stampers! I am going down memory lane and perusing the 2016-17 annual catalog for little gems that I have sadly forgotten! These sets sometimes get missed when the Occasions catty drops. I will go back lots of times and think I can’t believe I haven’t used that set in so long, and I will pull it out and use the heck out of it!

I sometimes think of my stamp sets in the Toy Story fashion, as if they are just siting there saying ” Why isn’t Rach using us?” I know, I am a tad corny, but I am what I am !

Anyway, this quick and easy birthday card should be on your “must create in case of emergency birthday ” list! I know I sometimes go through that stack of cards quicker than I like to admit, and this card is a great way to add back to your stack pretty quickly.

Plus, you could change the colors around, and make it a great 50 ( or 60 or 70) and Fabulous card, by using Smoky Slate, and Archival black for that Black Tie look. Add a little glimmer paper, and you will WOW them.

See, I just gave myself a new idea as I was typing, so off to the craft room to recreate!

OK onto the directions!

Card Base: Watermelon Wonder 5 1/2″ by 81/2″, scored at 4 1/4″. Stamp the flags from the Build a Birthday set onto the base in Watermelon Wonder ink in a random pattern.

Stamp the layers of the cake, and trim just to size using the paper snips.

My colors were from bottom to top:

Cake Plate: Dapper Denim, I used a blender Pen to add some White craft ink to the edge and to add details.

Cake : Mint Macaron, Flirty Flamingo, Sweet Sugarplum, Cucumber Crush

I stamped the sentiment and the top flags in Watermelon Wonder. I hand trimmed the sentiment, and I stamped the flags directly onto the base layer of card stock that I layered the “cake” onto.

The Whisper White layer measures 2 3/4″ by 4 3/4″, I also added some Silver metallic thread under the white layer for some added pop. I went over the flags and the cake plate with Wink of Stella for a little sparkle!

Until next time……

Stay Crafty!

Valentine’s Little Box , Stampin’ Up!

Hi stampers! I am happy to share the little box instructions with you! I really thought I already made this blog post and video, and I did, but it was on a Facebook Live, and I am not able to copy it to here. So, since so many asked, and I TRULY LOVE your feedback, I decided to get to it and fast. You are the reason I do this after all 🙂

Ok first of all, this doesn’t need to be a “little” box, you can make it whatever size you may want or need. As long as your paper is square, you are good to go. Mind you I think most paper stops at a 12×12 size, but let your heart run wild!

You will need a square piece of DSP or cardstock, Tombow Liquid glue, and your bone folder.

Another note, the Specialty DSP, is a little thinner, and will tend to rip a bit more, so if you choose to use it, be gentle with your folding , and maybe hold out on using your bone folder unless necessary.

Also, using card stock as your box, is much thicker, and can be done, but you will definitely need your bone folder.

So to sum it up, the regular DSP ( of any kind, In Color, patterned, solid color) will work the best, but the other will be fine as well, as long as you are patient.

Make sure your DSP is square, 6×6, 8×8, 5×5, 12×12, you get the idea, then follow the folds below.

So, forgive me, I reused the instruction photos from the Christmas Version ( it has been overcast and rainy, and I didn’t want to post dim photos)

I reloaded the Valentine’s version onto this , so you could follow along with both if you liked!

12″ by 12″ piece of DSP

Trimmed to 8″ by8″

Keep a 3″ by 3″ piece of the DSP and cut a 2 3/4″ by 2 3/4″ square of Very Vanilla

Score the Very Vanilla piece at 3/4″ on each side, fold, snip at corners add glue dots and form inside of lid.

Add snail to DSP piece add sentiment piece cut from 2″ circle punch , layered onto a 2 1/2″ circle layer of Cherry Cobbler

Fold 8″ by 8″ piece in half, fold in half again in the other direction.

Fold corner to corner and brandish folds with bone folder. You will also want to fold corner to  corner  the opposite way to get an easier fold.

(Ps the DSP side you want to show should be facing up or out so you can see it)

Fold the corners in to form a square then turn so the opening faces you

Fold edge in and back to form a crease line to follow then fold the bottom of the left and right in to meet the crease

Fill over and repeat. When you’re done it should be the shape of a kite( see below)

Put your finger in the newly created fold and press open like a “squash fold”

You want the center of the squash fold to line up with the side of the kite( in a line)

Repeat on all four sides as above

You will then fold the edge of the flaps back in the other direction

Remember it will always match on all sides, that is how Origami folds work

On all four sides so they again match….

And once more it looks like a kite

The fold all four flaps up and brandish with bone folder

All four folder up (see below)

Put your fingers into the box and gently press open

And Voila!

You can gently curl the edges of the flaps with your bone folder to encourage them to go with the curve of the box and add adhesive to all four flap undersides if your going to attach them down
