So long, bye bye!

Hi Stampers!
By now you may have heard some of the news: The Stampin’ Trimmer and Big Shot will be discontinued.
Why did they do this and what will replace them?
Well first, everyone has had numerous issues with the trimmer blades not cutting, not cutting well, not lasting long ( especially if you’re a demo and cutting a ton for classes). So, they tried relentlessly to fix the issue, to come up with solutions that just did not seem to work, so they decided to choose another avenue, they are working on a replacement. The new trimmer (when it comes) will hopefully cut out all the issues we’ve had ( yes, I include myself with having issues ) in the past. One thing though, they did not want to just pick a trimmer hastily and have it not be a good solution, so there will be no trimmer in the 2019-20 Annual Catalog.
You may want to purchase for the Stampin’ Trimmer if you own it:
  • Cutting Blades ( limit 3, next week it will be limit 6 until supplies run out)
  • Scoring Blades
  • cutting mat slide insert

Because we don’t have a time frame for when the new trimmer will be available, you will want to keep the old one working for as long as possible. you can check out a lot of videos on how to clean your trimmer and keep it working like new on YouTube!

I know this may be a shocker, but I am thinking this way, it will be an improvement on what we had. I mean shoot, I had to go out and buy another cutter to be able to keep up with my class demands, so that tells you something right there.

Another thing that will be missing is the Big Shot, which will also lead into embossing folders, thinlits, framelits etc. I am not sure the big picture reason, but we are not longer partnering with Sizzix and will be producing our own “Dies” and ” Folders/3D Folders”

We will still carry some of the folders and dies that are able to currently coordinate with our stamp sets etc, but they may look slightly different. They will still be top SU! quality you expect. If you really want a certain folder or die, I suggest you order it NOW. They will still carry certain things over but there may be a slight difference in the new folder/die etc from the previous Sizzix version. There will be some things that WILL NOT carry over but we will not know until the carryover list comes out on April 15th.

You may want to purchase for the Big Shot if you own it:

  • Cutting plates
  • Magnetic plate
  • dies you really want to own
  • folders you really want to own
  • Embossing mats etc

The dies and folders we will produce will be similar to the old ones, but from pics I have seen look like they may cut a tad closer. I am also told we will be able to create more things WE want and not just what was offered since we will work directly with the manufacturer. They will work with any machine you won or plan to purchase, some may need a slight shim( a paper insert, such as card stock or thin cardboard) to make it cut.

I promise to keep you as updated as I can on these things. I know this may sound shocking, but to be honest, and you know I always am, I am excited to see what new things will come.

I do honestly believe Stampin’ Up! will take care of us, they ALWAYS have in my experience, and I am not panicking at all..  I would rather sell an amazing product then a mediocre one, and I would rather they delay bringing them out to make sure they are fantastic then rush and have them fail.
The leaders have been having fun thinking of old products that have retired that they miss:
-Stampin’ Wheels- I never could get them straight
-MDS (My Digital Studio)
-The guillotine trimmer
-The Spritzer (great idea, but dried out our markers incredibly fast!!)
-The Bigz dies
-Colours like Chocolate Chip
-Project Life (when we actually had the brand Project Life)
-The mini stapler
-The Blendabilities (these were our original alcohol markers which Stampin’ Up! had to recall as they ended up not meeting our high quality standards)
-Stampin’ Pastels
-Our original watercolor pencils
Sometimes products don’t meet our standards or things go out of style like fashion.  At times they have just outlived their usefulness.  Either way, Stampin’ Up! will continue to always change, as any good company should!
I want you to know I am solid, I am here for you!
If you have questions, I will do my very best to answer them. We should be getting a lot more information at OnStage this weekend and I will keep you posted  as much as possible.
Is there something you want to know?
Is there a product you were happy went anyway or one you really miss?
One other thing of note. Most companies when they no longer carry an item, do not warn you ahead of time, it just is there one day and gone the next. I am really thankful Stampin’ Up! has at least given us a heads up to prepare.
Change in business is inevitable, it makes things happen, it keep things fresh. I wrote these words from my heart! I hope you understand I will still be a no nonsense, tell it like it is person. I will not sugarcoat or tell you what I think you want to hear.
If nothing else I am above all honest, and I will keep that up for all of you!
XO Rach

This is very sad on the Big Shot. It has been a staple of our craft. I just sold one to a new stamper and she is just beginning her journey with stampin up and loves the dies. I hope whatever they do it will be compatible to be able to use with our big shot. I’m stunned. I hope I didn’t sell her something she will not be able to grow her crafting with stampin up.

Arggggg……don’t mind change for the better though I’d like to be able to purchase items when they are ‘rolled out’ and not automatically put on a wait list. For example the new storage containers. We know SU has a quality product which is why we are still customers after all these years. I would like Stampin Up to consider paying shipping.

I was just going to purchase the trimmer because of some of it’s atttibutes because i do need a way to cut my paper. Is there another ouy thete on the market thst you could or would it still be worth my while to purchase Stampin Up’s since it would just be used for my personal use I am thinking the blades might last longer? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

I, for one, truly appreciate your direct, un-sugarcoated comments. That’s the way I am. I hear a lot of people getting upset. You didn’t say Sizzix wouldn’t have the Big Shot, just Stampin Up won’t. So I’m sure parts can be found when SU runs out. I know as a demostrator, you’d like people to buy SU products. But I’m sure there are very few people, if they’ve been doing this for a long time, wbo can say that they haven’t purchased something outside of SU. Even if it’s something that SU doesn’t carry. So I’m sure that we’ll be fine until we see the next thing that stamping up brings out. Again, thank you SO much for your honesty and directness. It is greatly appreciated! Have a great day!

I miss some of the basic things like oval punches. I’ve been looking for the XL and small retired oval punches, but they are hard to find and if you can- they are very expensive.
