This fun technique is a new revival of an old favorite 🙂
You will need some wax paper ( nothing fancy, cheap is fine), an old tea towel, an Iron set around low/medium heat setting ( depends on the age and model of your iron, just warm enough to melt the wax to transfer) and Stampin’ Up! Glossy card stock that has FINALLY made its return 😀
The amount of wax transferred will depend on how hard and with you crinkle your wax paper into a ball. So a tighter ball will result in smaller wax patches, a looser gentler formed ball will have larger wax patches.
The cool thing about this is NO TWO cards will ever be the same.
You can turn your iron on and then set up. You will want a 4 1/4″ by 5 /12″ piece of Glossy card stock to start and then you can go from there once you prefect your technique. Lay your tea towel open onto and ironing board, lay the glossy card stock glossy side up, lay the crumpled wax paper on top, fold the tea towel over to cover it all and then iron all over this “sandwich”. You can hold still in spots to warm the wax, but keep it moving enough to not scorch your towel. Peek in every once in a while to see if you have your iron hot enough. When all the wax has transferred to your liking, then you’ll move on to step two.
Now you can use your sponge brayer, sponge daubers, or regular stampin sponges to add ink color. Add ink and then wipe the excess off with a paper towel. You can keep adding and wiping until you get a desired finish.
I finished this particular card by adding “Happy Birthday” with Silver Foil paper adhered with the Mulitpurpose Adhesive sheets. They are a breeze to use, you simply add them to the back of whatever card stock you want to adhere. For this one I used the Silver Foil, then cut it using the Happy Birthday thinlit with the Big Shot. Remove the backing and adhere directly to the wax paper layer we created. I added this panel to a 4 1/4″ by 11″ (scored at 5 1 /2″) piece of Fresh Fig card stock.
Then we did another wax paper sheet using Cherry Cobbler and Garden Green inks and I cut out the stocking using the Trim Your Stocking thinlits dies set. I added some Silver Foil paper to the toe, heel and top for added sparkle. I also added a from Santa tag from the Oh, What Fun photopolymer stamp set.
