2017-19 In Colors, Something Old & Something New, Stampin' Up, Watercoloring

Watercoloring , Stampin’ Up!

Hi Stampers! So, let me guess……you’ve never tried to watercolor because you’re not an artist? Maybe you don’t have water in your house? It looks scary? Well, those things may be true, but watercoloring is one of the most REWARDING and most forgiving techniques you will ever try.

The beauty of it, is that you do not have to have any idea what you are doing……all you need to do is try. When you order your aqua painter, first off, you get TWO! That’s right two, and they have different brush lengths and thicknesses. When I first got mine I did so at a big box craft store, and it was only one in the bag. And to be honest, it worked for some time, still does. But to be able to be authentic for you all, I ordered the brushed from Stampin’ Up! and was rather surprised that they came in two packs. Pretty cool if you ask me.

So now you have your brushes,  you just need to fill them with water, and grab a cloth or paper towel, even a baby wipe if it’s handy. You’ll need something to blot with and to bleed the ink out onto if you want to switch colors. And trust me, you will switch colors if you give this a shot.

It is super relaxing to water color and there are many ways to do it, and I will have a video later this week to link in a few of them. But for basics, you can choose Watercolor Paper(WC), or Thick Whisper White(TWW)card stock, OR coming out very soon in the new catalog Thick Very Vanilla card stock ( which I am thrilled about!!!).

Then you have to make a choice, you can take your brush and lay a light( read not soaking wet) layer of water over the whole paper you are going to color, this works slightly better with the WC paper, but the TWW will work too, and slowly add in layers of the color you picked first. Clean you brush add a new color and repeat. Alternatively, you can add a few drops of water to the well side of your ink pad after you ova squeezed the pad together to create an ink pool. You can also achieve them same thing by adding a few drops of reinker to the well side of the pad and add a few drops of water too. The second technique will give a slightly more concentrated color hue.

And yet another way to watercolor is to stamp an image in either Tuxedo ink, Staz-On ink or Archival Black ink. Let the black ink dry thoroughly and then add in your color. I would stay away from laying the water onto the whole image for this version , as it will likely smear your image. However, that color be a very pretty, soft and washed out card, so I may just have to try that myself.

So my main point is, give it a try. Sure, you may hate it, but I find that highly unlikely. My bet is you’ll be asking yourself what took you so long to try it? One more tiny piece of advice, if you truly hate the image and think you have really gone down the wrong path, and who in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD is gonna want this card…..walk away. Let it dry, even give it a full overnight, and I thinking the morning you may be pleasantly surprised 🙂

Most of all, do not give up, create something that makes you smile, makes your heart sing, and may very well make someones day!

Until next time, Stay Crafty!

XO Rach

Neutrals Collection, NEW 2016-17 Stampin' Up Catalog, Soft Subtles, Stampin' Up, Watercoloring

Country Livin’ , Stampin’ Up!

Hey there stampers…..sorry I have been away so long. I took my son the the beach for a few days on a whim, and my dad recently had an emergency surgery done, so the stamping had to take a back seat. That is really how I came up with this card, I nice relaxing view from the passenger seat or bed of this very cool old truck. I think the cards turned out so much better than I could’ve imagined since I stepped out of the color box for this one. I have seen so many GREAT cards with this set, but mostly in darker ink shades. So I thought I would go out on a limb and see what came of it.

NEW 2016-17 Stampin' Up Catalog, Stampin' Up, Watercoloring

I’m Here for You, Stampin’ Up

Hi Stampin’ friends! I must say, I have L O V E D  this set ever since I first saw it. The flower is just so simple and beautiful, the patch used for the background, gives so much depth. It looks so pretty either stamped direct or popped up. It was also a great card to make because I love to color, or watercolor. There is something so very relaxing about it to me, that and fussy cutting. I know, you wouldn’t think those two would go hand in hand, but I really enjoy them both. This card would also make a stunning Wedding card, especially if you found out the wedding colors ahead of time and used them. I have done that same thing with wedding cards I have made, and I will tell you, the Bride absolutely loved it. There is not much more that would make a wedding more special, then a custom color coordinated card. Try it once, I’ll bet you get rave reviews 🙂

Onto this fantastic card….it was quite easy. I cut my layers.First Basic Black 5 1/2″ by  4 1/4″, second Sahara Sand, 5 1/4″ by 4″, finally Whisper White 5″ by 3 3/4″. I stamped the Whisper White layer with the background gauzy image with Soft Sky ink. You will need a scrap piece of Whisper White to put your flower image on, which is stamped in Black Staz-On. I colored in my flower before I cut it, and as I always do when I color, I went outside the lines so there were no harsh white edges. This also allows more room if you do not cut the flower quite as close to the image as I did.I colored the edges of the flower darker, and blended in lighter as I moved in to the center. I thought it gave a really genuine flower look, and accentuated the image more. Once I fussy cut it out, I added dimensionals to the back of the flower, stem and leaves. I put a “x” mark of Snail on the Soft Sky area, wound the Copper thread around my fingers a few times, and stuck it down lightly to the snail. I adjusted the Copper thread to my liking, pulling more to the top and out of the sides so you could still see it once the flower is in place. Then I set the flower on top, before removing the dimensional backing to make sure I was satisfied. Once it was good, I peeled off the backing and pressed firmly, which will also keep the Copper thread in place. I used Versamark to stamp the sentiment, added Copper Embossing powder, and used my heat tool to set the words. I used the single banner from Bunch of Banners to cut it out with the Big Shot. I also raised the sentiment up on dimensionals because I liked it better than flat down. I took the time to finish the inside of the card as well, since it gives a beautiful and richer feel to the card. you could add the inside sentiment later if you wish, however I thought the words from the Artistically Asian set went along so well with the front sentiment. I added a splash piece from Timeless Textures in Soft Sky, the added the sentiment in Staz-On as well.
Until next time, Stay Crafty!!

NEW 2016-17 Stampin' Up Catalog, Stampin' Up, Watercoloring

My Sweet Friend, Stampin’ Up: Helping me Grow

Hello stampers! Today’s card is one I stumbled upon in the NEW 2016 catalog. Of course, I cannot share the catalog with you just yet, but I sure can make a copy card and show you how you can make it too! If you haven’t gotten your hands on a NEW CATTY yet, drop me a comment or an email, and I’ll tell you how to get one FREE 🙂 This is such a beautiful card, and really, too easy to make. You could also do the flower in SO many different color schemes. This would also make a simple and meaningful sympathy card, or  a just thinking of you card. We all need someone to think of us now and then, right?

Plus, if you’ve never done it, the video shows how to get that cool splatter technique on the card. It really gives it a homey, loved feeling. I think it reminds me a lot of a card stock Stampin’ Up made a while back, one that I really miss. So now we can make our own 🙂

If you haven’t already, make sure you sign up for my YouTube channel, Rachthestamper. I will be doing some new videos with the NEW catalog stuff in early JUNE!!!! You don’t want to miss that, do ya?

I just can’t wait…..how about you?

Hope to hear from YOU soon……until next time, Stay Crafty!!

Sweet Friend
